The rain has been crazy for the last few days, and I fuggin' love it. I am sure it will get old real soon, but for the time being I am enjoying it.

In other news, while enjoying a nice lunch of indian food in the city today, I received a video message from my older brother showing my now-empty childhood home. For those who don't already know, 2 months after my father passed away, my mother got evicted from the home i grew up in, and has had to move in with her sister. The video hit me pretty hard, and bummed me out for most of the day.

Wow, it's been a crazy year, with extreme highs and lows. I moved into a new, amazing apartment in as dream neighborhood, a block from the ocean. But on the other hand, my father, the man who was my hero my whole life, passed away.
I can't even put into words the range of emotions I am feeling, on this the cusp of a new year. Instead, I will concentrate on my art.
Here are some recent sketchbook pages. These were done in gouache and are 8"X11", to be turned into larger acrylic paintings later. (That's the idea, anyways...)

I have also commited to doing my daily comic journal. (The first new one will be finished tonight.) For right now, here is the last one I did early last year:

In other news, I finally saw Juno, and say what you will, but just for Michael Cera alone it was worth the ticket price. I will say this, though...I can't wait until Diablo Cody decides to direct and releases some self-indulgent hipster crapfest.
I also bought this book today:

Yet another long absence from updating this thing...I have been so busy and it's only gonna get harder to find the time...sending off invitations this week, getting fitted for the tuxes on Sunday, planning the trip up to look for apartments...I swear to Jebus, I have so much grey hair, and there is still so much to do.

Got the DJ finally though. Thanks to Sonya for that hook up.

been off and on with sickness...I am sure that's related.

Had a good New Years, for the most part, minus some embarrasing turn of events at Devin's.

On Monday, in that terrible rain, we braved a trip to LA. Was actually a really nice day...got to Giant Robot before it opened, went to the Japanese grocer's and ate Pocky in the rain. Then a trip to Santa Monica and some shopping and then we saw Match Point (B+)

Now I am back at work, putting addresses on invitations, looking up Sammy Harkham comics on the world wide web, and basically trying not to think about all the stuff that needs to get done...

Well, this weekend that I was fearing so much finally arrived, not quite as painful as it could have been, granted, but still with some rough spots...
This was the weekend where her parents were to meet mine. Gaby's Bridal Shower. Now, as it turned out, my father got extremely sick and couldn't make it, so it was just my mom and Amanda, my sister-in-law. Ouch. If you could ever get a twosome primed for embarrassing moments...
It's fat too much to go into here, and I am WAY too tired to type it all anyways, but I can say that though I was fortunate to escape the most of it (no boys allowed at the shower...so I drove around the OC for 4 hours.)I did find out, after the fact, about some moments that will go down in my own personal Hall Of Shame.

Thankfully, Monday was much better...saw King King whilst waiting for Gaby to get off of work (Best Actor Oscar goes to: KOng, for being the most creepily emotive CGI character EVER.)
Then, when Gaby got off of work, we went and had a nice dinner, did some window shopping, and then saw Brokeback Mountain, which was as good as I had heard...(glad to know Hulk didn't ruin yer career Ang!)
Then we went back to her house and watched the Daily Show and she made me lunch to take to work today :>
I am a lucky man.

Man, I am starting to feel like ass...
Yesterday I saw the funniest/saddest thing I have seen in a while:
While at the light at in front of the AM/PM, I saw an older mexican guy walking with a bag of groceries...and he had just gotten to that entrance when a car came around the corner too fast, and even cut off another car to turn into the gas station...she came about as close to running this guy over as I have ever seen, but the guy fell backwards, and everything in his bag came flying out like in a movie, and his OJ hit the ground next to him and splashed the dude...a big black lady at one the pumps started yelling at the girl who was driving the car, callin' out "You a stupid bitch!!! You a stupid bitch!" The girl got out of her car and totally ignored the everybody at the pumps. I was laughing so hard I missed the light and the guy behind me had to honk! Dude, straight up like a movie.

Martin just asked me to host an online radio show...how random....

So, this weekend was pretty damn nice...
Went to the Charles Phoenix Retro Holiday Slide Show in Brea. When we first got there, I was gonna strangle Gaby, because everyone there was a well dressed octoganarian (see also: rich old people) and I was wearing a sweatshirt with horsies on it, and I looked like I had just awoken from my home behind the dumpster.
But when the thing started none of that mattered. It was so much damn fun!!! For those of you who don't know, Charles Phoenix is an author/designer/collector of vinatge Americana who puts on these retro slide shows...which is exactly what it sounds like: a silde show of family slides, usually purchased at thrift stores or given to him by friends, of families from the 40s-50s. Sounds boring? no way. It's so much fun, and his elaborate, funny, queeny way of describing the photos is perfect. Go to: Godblessamericana.com to check him out!

After that we went to Out Of Vogue vintage thrift in Fullerton and ended up talking to the owner for 2 hours!! He was so cool, and so nice, and it was really inspiring to talk to him: a cool 42 year old man, with great taste, a wife who helped him start his dream job at the age of 36, and just really down to earth. We are gonna buy a $349 Eames chair from them.

Then on Monday I spent the day on my own, shopping for X-Mas and what-have-you. My new glasses came in too, and I am really happy with them.
All day long, whilst out shopping, people kept starting up conversations with me...a girl at Victoria's Secret followed me around the store and asked me where I had bought my jacket. Then a guy at Urban Outfitter's (yes, I shop there...don't laugh at me!) told me I had a sweet beard, and that he wanted to buy my (New) frames from me...so go figure!

And today: Christmas Bonus!!! YAY!!!
